Introducing The Royal Marsden’s new Patron, HRH The Princess of Wales
It is wonderful for an organisation to have a Royal Patron.
Now The Royal Marsden is proud to have not one, but two after HRH The Princess of Wales joined her husband as Patron of our hospital.
The news was announced as Her Royal Highness visited The Royal Marsden’s Chelsea hospital earlier this month (Jan) to personally thank staff following her own cancer treatment.
In a message on social media, the Princess thanked the hospital for the “exceptional” care she received and for looking after her “so well”.
She added: “My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything. We couldn’t have asked for more.”
Catherine arrived at the hospital as a visitor, rather than as a patient. During her visit she met patients as well as staff.
She sympathised with those undergoing treatment, telling one woman having chemotherapy: “It’s really tough…It’s such a shock… Everyone said to me, ‘please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference’.”
Her Royal Highness meet patients in the Diane McCarthy Medical Day Unit, where chemotherapy and immunotherapy are delivered.
Funded by The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, the unit is designed specifically to maximise the comfort of patients by creating a bright and peaceful environment.
Dame Cally Palmer, Chief Executive of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, said:
“We were honoured to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales to The Royal Marsden in Chelsea this morning, and are delighted that Her Royal Highness is now joining His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in becoming Joint Patrons of our specialist cancer centre.
“His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales has been President of The Royal Marsden since 2007 and has been a wonderful supporter of our work for nearly two decades. We are incredibly fortunate to receive Royal Patronage – it is inspiring for staff and patients and enables us to shine a light on the outstanding work our staff deliver every day for patients and their families.”
