Nth Degree Spring Dinner raises £50,000 for Oracle Cancer trust
My very grateful thanks and appreciation goes to Robert Walton MBE and his wife the renowned designer Donna Ida, for organising and hosting a fabulous charity dinner last Friday that has raised in total over £50,000 for Oracle Cancer Trust.
Oracle is the UK’s leading national charity dedicated to funding research into head and neck cancer.
Robert Walton MBE is one of the most respected and recognised figures in the hospitality industry and President of the Restaurant Association. He is also the founder of the Nth Degree, an exclusive Private Dining Club based in London, Dubai and other prestigious locations around the world.
He organised the charity dinner at Claridge’s stunning The French Salon following his own diagnosis and treatment for tongue cancer in 2017.
During the evening, Robert shared his very personal story, about how the support, love and friendship of others had helped him through 12 months of harrowing treatment. Treatment which has left him with lifelong side-effects resulting in a partial loss of taste and dry mouth which is a very common following radiotherapy.
Guests included Oracle’s Patron and author Sir Michael Morpurgo, who was successfully treated for cancer of the larynx. The audience of more than 90 business leaders, entrepreneurs and friends and family of Mr Walton and his wife were delighted to hear that Sir Michael is now once again enjoying his daily ritual of singing. He even treated them to a traditional folk song from his book “Waiting for Anya.”
I also gave an after-dinner speech and talked about the latest developments in treatment and radiotherapy. In addition how Oracle has funded some early studies that have resulted in major breakthroughs in radiotherapy for head and neck cancer.

Over £25,000 was raised with a highly successful live and silent auction which has been matched in a funding programme by The Sir Adrian Swire Pioneers Fund. The fund was set up in memory of Sir Adrian Swire and brought the total raised on the night to £50,000.
Afterwards, Mr Walton said he was overwhelmed by the generosity of family, friends and supporters. Following the success of the evening, a date of May 11th 2020 has been set for another Nth Degree Spring Dinner in support of Oracle Cancer Trust.
